Located on Venice Island in the Schuylkill River, Carmella’s opened its doors in April of 2003 to serve family-style Southern Italian cuisine. Derek Davis is a restaurateur and presides over Carmellas, formally Arroyo Grille. In addition, he owns Sonoma and Kansa’s City Prime. Dan Neducsin is co-owner, Allen Newman is a partner, and Bill Kee is the general manager. Carmella’s has its grand menu hanging on the wall in the main dining room, and large entrées prepared for two or more! For instance, the 38-ounce porterhouse steak is designed to feed three or four. The antipasto sampler and chicken saltimbocca are require more than one mouth too. With its large dining rooms, spacious air-conditioned decks and adequate parking, this is a restaurant to accommodate groups and those who appreciate a short walk from car to dining experience. Derek Davis much great recognition over the past decade including being named the Best Restaurant Entrepreneur by Philadelphia Magazine in 1994 in addition to Kansas City Prime being named the hottest spot in Philadelphia. In 1995, Philadelphia Magazine elected Sonoma as the best place to go on a first date, and Kansas City Prime was recognized as a beef lover’s pleasure.
