In 1955 Joseph and Elizabeth Davis opened Ches-pen Donut shop on Seventh Street in Bridgeport. By 1962 they had a very successful business. They then moved to their present location on 4th Street and renamed the shop Suzy-Jo's after their daughters Suzanne and Joanne.
Joseph and Elizabeth continued to run the business together until 1980 when Joseph became ill and could no longer work. Elizabeth continued to operate with the help of a family friend Judy Nagrant. In 1985 Joseph Davis passed away but Suzy-Jo's remained intact with Elizabeth and Judy running the shop and Joanne and Joey stepped in to help.
In 1994 Joanne left Suzy-Jo's to open her own store with her husband Ray. They named their store Am-E-Lyn's, after their daughters, which they still own and operate today in Jeffersonville's West Norriton Square.
Elizabeth and her son Joe ran Suzy-Jo's up until 2001. By then Elizabeth was ready to retire, so she sold the business to her daughter Joanne. Suzy-Jo's has managed to remain a family owned business for the last 48 years.
The donut shop is now owned by Elizabeth's daughter, Joanne her husband Raymond and their three daughters Lynne, Amy, Emily and Amy's husband Mike Volpe. Currently, Suzy-Jo Donuts is operated and managed by Amy and Mike Volpe.
